Mold Remediation After Bathroom Leak and Health Concerns

Even small plumbing issues can lead to serious consequences if left unchecked. In this project, the client contacted us after noticing frequent illness in her daughter. She suspected mold might be the cause, especially following a recent toilet leak that had not been properly repaired by a previous plumber. That suspicion turned out to be well-founded.

Step 1: Investigation and Discovery

We started with a detailed inspection of the bathroom. Once we opened the floor, we were shocked by the extent of the mold contamination. The entire concrete base layer beneath the tiles was covered in black mold. Moisture had spread beneath the surface, allowing mold to grow undisturbed over time.

Step 2: Careful Demolition of Contaminated Materials

To properly remediate the damage, we carefully removed all affected materials. This included the tile floor, portions of the subfloor, and any drywall or trim with visible mold. All debris was securely bagged and removed from the site to prevent spreading spores.

Step 3: Mold Treatment and Deep Cleaning

The concrete slab and surrounding areas were thoroughly cleaned and treated with industrial-strength antifungal and antimicrobial solutions. We scrubbed and disinfected all exposed surfaces to ensure that no mold spores remained.

Step 4: Drying and Air Purification

We installed air scrubbers and dehumidifiers to completely dry the space and purify the air. This process is essential to ensure mold does not return once repairs are completed.

Step 5: Client Peace of Mind

Our client was relieved to learn the source of her daughter’s health issues and grateful that the problem was addressed thoroughly and professionally. With the mold gone and the bathroom prepped for restoration, the family can now move forward safely.
