Even the most durable outdoor materials — stone, cement, and wood — need maintenance from time to time.

The sun, humidity, and seasonal temperature swings of Southern California gradually wear down surfaces: mortar starts to crumble, and paint loses its strength and color.

In this project, the ProHands Handyman team completed masonry joint repair, pergola repainting, and storm curtain cleaning to refresh the outdoor space and protect it from further weather damage.

Masonry Joint Restoration: Targeted Repair and Protection

Stone masonry is strong but not immune to time and weather.

Our team restored only the areas where the mortar had weakened, keeping the structure sound and visually clean.

Work stages:

1. Inspection and assessment. We identified and marked the joints that required repair.

2. Partial removal. Loose and damaged mortar was carefully removed.

3. Surface preparation. The stone was cleaned of dust and debris.

4. Refilling with durable exterior mortar. We used a weather-resistant mix suitable for outdoor use.

5. Finishing and protection. The repaired areas were primed with a deep-penetrating primer and painted with high-quality exterior paint, providing lasting protection against moisture and microcracks.

The result is a neat, well-protected masonry surface that maintains the integrity and look of the original stonework.

Pergola Repainting and Storm Curtain Cleaning

The wooden pergola adds charm and comfort to the outdoor area, but constant sun exposure can dull its finish over time.

To refresh the space, we repainted the pergola and thoroughly cleaned the storm curtains, restoring both protection and aesthetics.

Work process:

1. Surface preparation. The pergola was cleaned before painting.

2. Painting. All wooden elements were coated in one consistent color using a durable exterior-grade paint with UV and moisture resistance.

3. Storm curtain cleaning. The curtains and their frames were washed and wiped down, removing dust and dirt, which made the entire space look brighter and cleaner.

The result is a refreshed outdoor area with a clean, unified appearance and renewed protection against the elements.

Long-Term Benefits of Regular Maintenance

Consistent care for outdoor features prevents costly repairs and keeps your property looking its best.

After the updates, both the masonry and pergola surfaces received added protection from:

sunlight and UV fading,

moisture and mildew,

cracking from temperature shifts,

general surface wear and staining.

This kind of maintenance helps preserve both the look and strength of your outdoor living space.

Results: Fresh, Protected, and Cohesive

Once the work was completed, the stone looked renewed, the pergola gained a smooth and clean finish, and the storm curtains became clear and well-maintained again.

The project achieved its goal — to protect, refresh, and enhance the outdoor space for years to come.
